A Vintage Jewelry PIerre Cardin Love Story
One of the reasons that people love antiques, vintage and estate pieces is because they are interested in the STORY of that goes along with the collectible, jewelry, art and more. I recently sold a rare Pierre Cardin Mid Century Hallmarked Sterling and Gold Pendant.

“This is an amazing collector’s piece! Extremely Rare Statement Vintage Pendant. An original hallmarked modernist mid century Pierre Cardin Sterling Silver, Round Black Onyx Bezel Set in yellow gold Necklace on a Serpentine Sterling silver Chain. Gorgeous and Heavy! The Pendant is 2.5″ long X 2″ wide and oval. Three large black oval cut onyx gems are bezel set in 14kt yellow gold. A Heavy and Finely made statement piece, it weighs 46.6 grams of sterling silver and 14kt yellow gold. Hallmarks on the back are “14K Pierre Cardin, Paris – New York, Sterling Silver – Argent”
The wide serpentine flat bezintine necklace is sterling silver, hallmarked, made in Italy and measures 1cm wide and 17″. This is a collector’s museum vintage estate piece. It will be sold as is with vintage on it. Once purchased, I can polish it new but most collectors want it with it’s antiquity.
The modernist jewelers who practiced their craft from the 1930s through the1960s were pretty emphatic about their rejection of the styles that had come before. Victorian jewelry was dismissed as too decorative, Art Nouveau pieces were deemed too fussy, and theArt Deco aesthetic was considered excessively rigid.
Modernist jewelers felt they had more in common with painters, sculptors, and other modern artists of the day. Their ambitious goal was to create one-of-a-kind works of art that people could wear the pieces.
Almost immediately after listing the piece, I received a note from a woman asking if she could put the piece on hold for a week. She told me that she HAD to have it because she has the matching ring. I just love stories like this. Such a rare piece and the person who has purchase it has the matching ring! I asked her to send me a picture of the ring after she received the pendant and it is a perfect match. Now if only we knew the story!!!
The good news is that now, a new story begins.
